Teaching

Rutgers University

Dr. Aronson is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Library and Information Science, School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University. As such he regularly trains graduate students pursuing a Master of Information degree in how to select and use materials for children, materials for young adults, and international children’s books. He has made informational literacy — mandated for grades K-12 in New Jersey — a focus in all of his courses.

At Rutgers, Dr. Aronson has developed an annual Spring semester course on international youth literature. This class introduces graduate students to experts on youth literature from a great variety of countries and to participate in an optional trip to the Bologna Children’s Bookfair — one of the highlights of the profession. Students have called the trip and the course “life-changing.” For students who serve communities with strong ties to other languages and cultures, or with an active interest in the peoples and literatures of the wide world, the course offers a unique opportunity to become familiar with relevant books, authors, illustrators, publishers, and prizes.
